Safari Extension
The Silicon Secure Safari extension puts your vault one click away in the Safari toolbar on Mac. Fill credentials, copy passwords, and access matching entries without leaving your browser.
Mac only
The Safari extension is available on macOS only. On iPhone and iPad, credential filling in Safari is handled by the iOS AutoFill system â see the iOS AutoFill guide for that setup.
Enabling the Extension
The Safari extension is bundled with the Mac version of Silicon Secure. You just need to enable it in Safari's settings.
-
Open Safari and go to Settings
In Safari, go to Safari â Settings from the menu bar (or press â,).
-
Click the Extensions tab
You'll see a list of all installed Safari extensions. Silicon Secure should appear here automatically once the Mac app is installed.
-
Enable the Silicon Secure extension
Check the box next to Silicon Secure to enable it. The Silicon Secure icon will appear in Safari's toolbar.
-
Grant website access
Click the Silicon Secure toolbar icon and choose the access level. For the extension to detect and fill login forms, select Allow on All Websites or grant access site by site as you visit them. Site-by-site access is more privacy-conscious if you prefer to stay in control of which sites the extension can read.
Filling Credentials
Once the extension is enabled, there are two ways to fill credentials on a login page:
Automatic suggestion
When you click into a username or password field on a site that has a matching vault entry, the extension may surface an inline fill suggestion. Click it to fill both fields at once. You'll be prompted for Touch ID or your master password if the vault is locked.
Toolbar icon
Click the Silicon Secure icon in the Safari toolbar at any time to open the extension popup. It displays all vault entries that match the current site's domain. Click any entry to fill it, or use the icons next to an entry to copy the username, copy the password, or copy the TOTP code individually.
Pin the extension for quick access
Right-click the Silicon Secure icon in the Safari toolbar and select Keep in Toolbar to pin it so it's always visible â even when Safari is in compact mode.
Managing Website Permissions
You can review and change which websites the extension can access at any time from Safari â Settings â Extensions â Silicon Secure. Revoking access for a site means the extension won't read that page's content, but you can still open the popup manually and copy credentials from it.
Silicon Secure's extension only reads the current page's domain to find matching entries â it does not read page content, form data, or anything you type.
Extension and App Vault Are the Same
The Safari extension draws directly from the same vault as the Silicon Secure Mac app. There's no separate setup or sync â any entry you add or update in the app is immediately available in the extension, and vice versa.
Troubleshooting
The extension icon doesn't appear in Safari
Make sure Silicon Secure is installed from the Mac App Store and has been opened at least once. Then go to Safari â Settings â Extensions and confirm the Silicon Secure checkbox is checked. If it still doesn't appear, try quitting and relaunching Safari.
No entries appear for a site
The extension matches entries by domain. Open the vault entry for the site in Silicon Secure, tap Edit, and ensure the URL field contains the correct domain (e.g. https://github.com). A mismatch â such as http:// vs https:// or a subdomain difference â can prevent a match.
The extension asks for permission every session
If you chose "Ask for Each Website" during setup, Safari will prompt for permission every time you use the extension on a new site. To avoid this, go to Safari â Settings â Extensions â Silicon Secure and change the access setting to Allow on All Websites.
The vault is locked and I can't fill
Click the toolbar icon â you'll see a lock screen. Enter your master password or use Touch ID to unlock. Once unlocked, the matching entries for the current site will appear and you can fill as normal.
