iOS AutoFill

AutoFill lets Silicon Secure fill usernames, passwords, passkeys, and TOTP codes directly in Safari and other apps — without ever opening Silicon Secure manually. Here's how to set it up and use it.

Enabling AutoFill

AutoFill is configured through iOS Settings, not within Silicon Secure itself. It takes about 30 seconds.

  1. Open the iOS Settings app

This is the system Settings on your iPhone or iPad — the grey gear icon on your home screen.

  2. Go to Passwords

Scroll down in Settings and tap Passwords. You may be prompted for Face ID or Touch ID to continue.

  3. Tap "AutoFill Passwords & Passkeys"

This is the screen that controls which apps iOS uses to fill credentials.

  4. Enable the toggle and select Silicon Secure

Make sure the main AutoFill toggle is on, then tap Silicon Secure in the list of credential providers so it has a checkmark. You can leave iCloud Passwords enabled alongside it if you use both.

💡

Multiple providers can be active

iOS supports multiple AutoFill providers simultaneously. If you're transitioning from iCloud Keychain, you can keep both enabled during the transition and disable iCloud Keychain once you've moved everything to Silicon Secure.

Using AutoFill in Safari

Once enabled, AutoFill works automatically. When you navigate to a login page in Safari:

  1. Tap the username or password field.
  2. A suggestion from Silicon Secure appears above the keyboard (or in a Quick Type bar). It shows the entry title and username.
  3. Tap the suggestion. Silicon Secure will verify your identity with Face ID or Touch ID, then fill both the username and password fields instantly.

If more than one entry matches the site, tap the key icon in the keyboard toolbar to browse all matching entries and choose the right one.

Using AutoFill in Other Apps

AutoFill works in any iOS app that uses standard text fields for login — not just Safari. When you tap a username or password field in an app, look for the Silicon Secure suggestion above the keyboard. If it doesn't appear automatically, tap the key icon (🔑) in the keyboard toolbar to open the credential picker.

AutoFilling TOTP Codes

After filling a username and password, if the site redirects you to a two-factor authentication screen, Silicon Secure can fill the TOTP code too. Tap the 2FA code field — a suggestion with the current six-digit code will appear above the keyboard. Tap it to fill. The code updates automatically as the 30-second window expires.

This requires that the TOTP secret is stored on the same vault entry as the password. See the TOTP guide for setup instructions.

AutoFilling and Creating Passkeys

Silicon Secure's AutoFill extension handles passkeys as well as passwords. When a site offers to save a passkey or sign you in with one, iOS will prompt you to use Silicon Secure as the passkey provider. Authenticate with Face ID or Touch ID to proceed.

See the Passkeys guide for a detailed walkthrough.

Unlocking for AutoFill

Each time AutoFill is invoked, Silicon Secure requires biometric authentication (Face ID or Touch ID) to access the vault. This ensures that AutoFill only works when you're physically present and authenticated — it can't be triggered silently in the background.

If biometrics fail (e.g. if your face isn't recognized), you'll be prompted to enter your master password as a fallback before the fill proceeds.

Troubleshooting AutoFill

Suggestions don't appear

If no Silicon Secure suggestion appears when tapping a login field, check the following: confirm Silicon Secure is still selected in iOS Settings → Passwords → AutoFill Passwords & Passkeys; make sure the vault entry has a URL that matches the site you're on; and try pulling up the keyboard toolbar key icon manually to browse entries.

The wrong entry is suggested

AutoFill matches entries by comparing the website URL against the URLs stored in your vault entries. If the wrong entry appears, open the correct entry in Silicon Secure, tap Edit, and ensure the URL field contains the exact domain of the site (e.g. https://accounts.google.com rather than just google.com).

AutoFill shows no entries at all

Silicon Secure's vault must be unlocked for AutoFill to work. If the app has been locked due to auto-lock timeout, you'll be prompted to authenticate when AutoFill is invoked. If you're seeing a blank list with no prompt, try force-quitting Silicon Secure, reopening it, and unlocking the vault, then try AutoFill again.
